Workers’ Comp Safety Education Opportunities

Prevention is the key to good safety performance! One of the underlying principles of the OCA Workers’ Compensation Group Rating Program has been to prevent accidents and improve safety standards and practices on ALL member campuses. You are strongly encouraged to check out the information programs below, and use them to educate your faculty and staff to help enhance the safety culture on your campus.

Ohio college and university faculty and staff should be aware of the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation’s Division of Safety and Hygiene and the Nine Key Parameters for safety. Utilizing these nine key points will ensure a successful safety and health program on your campus:

  1. Visible, active senior management leadership
  2. Employee involvement and recognition
  3. Medical treatment and return-to-work practices
  4. Communication
  5. Safety and health process coordination
  6. Written orientation and training plans
  7. Written and communicated safe work practices
  8. Written safety and health policy
  9. Recordkeeping and data analysis

We’re in the business of education, so it should be no surprise that we strongly encourage you to attend and send campus staff and department leaders to ongoing BWC and OCA educational safety and training programs:
